ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS AND LANDLORDS . . .Renters please share this information with your landlord. With the new water lines, most of you have an increase in water pressure to your residence. If you have older plumbing, you need to consider contacting a licensed plumber or other qualified professional to check and determine if your existing lines need to be protected with a pressure reducing valve (PRV) or replaced in order to withstand a water pressure of 80 psi or greater. Otherwise, you may have a possible leak or break occur with older lines. It is NOT mandatory nor required that you install a PRV but only something you should consider as a precaution to protect your hot water heater, washing machine and other household plumbing.

EAST: The Water System Replacement Project Part-B – began construction on April 11, 2016, in the Greater Badin Water & Sewer District. The project is 99% complete. The contractor brought in an extra crew last month and they were able to assist in completing all meter installations within the month. For those of you following the construction map online, it continues to change daily. I do not have a commencement date for the final asphalt paving. I anticipate it to take place near the end of September.
Next 30-days: Now comes clean up time. You will see the contractor’s crew in various areas cleaning up around all meter boxes (inside and outside), cleaning curbs and streets for the next couple of weeks. We ask for your patience while they are trying to finish the multitude of small jobs left to handle. Project-end is within sight.

This month, an extra crew of men arrived to assist with water meter installations. They put in longer days; taking advantage of the daylight. Their pace has progressed nicely. Since June 12th, our contractor has replaced the old water meters with new meters on Dogwood Lane, Stanly, Cherry, Ash, Elm, Lake, Chestnut, Hickory, Walnut, Poplar, Cedar, Willow, Holly Place, Pine, Spruce Streets and Falls Road. I do not have a commencement date for the final asphalt paving (refer to the online map). We ask for your patience just a few more weeks during this transition stage. Project-end is within sight.
Next 30-days: We will place a pink “door hanger” with instructions, at your residence, a couple days prior to changing out your meter. Please plan for a two (2) hour interruption of service at the time indicated on your notice. Also, repairs to the drainage ditch and yard restorations are being finalized.

Streets have stayed cleaner in the vicinity of new water main installation with the continued use of the water truck. Click on the Notification Service tab and put your contact information in as a resident or business to receive important calls about water outages and emergencies. Example: If there is a water main break, we make an automated call to you to let you know we are turning the water off and the reason. Also, a Construction Progress Map advises you of the current work areas with street closings as well as the type of work being done along with the date. You will be able to locate water line installation, service tap installation, and street paving near you by following the color index on the left side of the screen. This map is updated daily.
ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS AND LANDLORDS . . .Renters please share this information with your landlord. With new water lines and new meters, you will have an increase in water pressure to your residence. If you have older plumbing, you need to consider contacting a licensed plumber or other qualified professional to check and determine if your existing lines need to be protected with a pressure reducing valve (PRV), upgraded or replaced in order to withstand a water pressure of 80 psi or greater. Otherwise, you may have a possible leak or break occur with older lines when the system is activated. It is NOT mandatory nor required that you install a PRV but only something you should consider as a precaution to protect your hot water heater, washing machine and household plumbing just to name a few.
The work zone schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Every effort has been made during construction to avoid blocking driveways and disturbing traffic flow. However, there will be times when this is unavoidable for a few hours but never over night. If you have problems or concerns about construction activities related to this project, a Stanly County Utilities customer service representative will be available by phone at 704-986-3686 (M-F, 8:30-5:00). If you need assistance outside regular business hours, dial 704-986-3700. As with any job, there have been a few obstacles to work around. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we are working in your area in the months to come. We appreciate your continued patience while we assess and process each individual concern as quickly as possible.

Dear Stanly County Homeowner or Resident,
EAST: The Water System Replacement Project Part-B – began construction on April 11, 2016, in the Greater Badin Water & Sewer District. Construction is 63% complete and the project is currently on schedule. The contractor has three crews working in your area; two crews are installing new water lines and the third crew is installing service taps as well as cleaning out ditches, paving & smoothing street cuts and making roadway restorations.
Cleaning streets, in the vicinity of new water main installation, became a priority last month. With the arrival of the water truck, streets no longer looked like dirt roads. Measures are in place to stay on top of cleaning daily to avoid the buildup of dirt and mud. Also, excavated rock was removed from various properties.
During the next 30-days, the concrete work will continue on Falls Road between Highway 740 and Boyden Street. The area around the Post Office should be filled-in with concrete before the New Year. Rain and colder weather will determine the progress made during the upcoming month. Water main lines and services will continue to be installed on Lake, Walnut, Cherry Streets, Falls Road and Dogwood Lane. Testing new mains will commence, after all water main lines are installed.

Our office received a lot of phone calls this month from the residents in the work zones. We appreciate your continued patience while we assess and process each individual concern as quickly as possible. Please be advised that any and all excavated rock will be removed from your property before project closes. The asphalt road patch has been settling in some areas causing the roads to be rough to drive on. Measures are being taken to address this issue also. Cleaning streets, in the vicinity of new water main installation, has been a big concern during the past month due to lack of rain and equipment failure. Additional equipment arrived on the 14th to remedy the situation. As of November 15th, no new digging will take place until the dirt is cleared off the roadways.
During the next 30-days, the concrete work will be concentrated in areas on Falls Road as well as Henderson Street. Water main lines and services will continue to be installed on Lake, Poplar, Hickory, Chestnut, Walnut, Cherry Streets and Falls Road. Conditions are dry and dusty; the streets will be washed accordingly.

The contractor has three crews working in your area; two crews are installing new water lines and the third crew is installing service taps as well as cleaning out ditches, paving over street cuts and making roadway restorations. The asphalt road patch has been settling in some areas causing the roads to be rough to drive on. Measures have been taken to address this issue also. The concrete sidewalk & driveway construction on Henderson Street will continue. An additional concrete company began work October 11th at Falls Road on the curbing. The newly installed water mains on Tallassee, Cheoah, Nantahala, Spruce, Henderson, Boyden and Maple Streets have been tested and passed.

We anticipate to be finished with the area around the school by their first day. While we are experiencing extra dry and dusty conditions, the streets will be washed down as needed. When the daily heat indexes soared upwards of 112 degrees the last couple weeks in July, a special “Thank You” goes out to the residents that provided coolers of ice and extra water to the workers enduring but not stopping because of the heat. Your actions were considerate and appreciated by everyone.
